Chapter 6 - THE BEST FRIENDDaniel did not immediately confront Michael.
Detective Reed warned him.
“If Michael is involved, we don't know how deeply.”
Daniel invited Michael to dinner.
Michael arrived carrying wine and a stuffed bear for Noah.
He seemed normal.
Too normal.
During dinner, Reed traced payments from one of Michael's business accounts to Helen.
Nearly eighty thousand dollars over two years.
Daniel casually asked whether Michael knew Helen.
Michael hesitated.
Then admitted she had worked briefly for his elderly father.
A believable explanation.
But Daniel noticed Michael watching Noah.
Not lovingly.
Nervously.
Later, Michael went upstairs.
He stood alone outside Noah's nursery.
Daniel watched from the hallway.
Michael whispered:
May you like
“I'm sorry.”
Daniel's blood went cold.
