Chapter 7 - The Trap

Julian and Naomi both knew that simply going to the local police with a discarded, un-dusted vial and the fragile testimony of an elderly woman recovering from a cardiac event wouldn't be nearly enough. Serena was a master manipulator; she would spin a tale of elder dementia and an overstepping, jealous maid. They needed her caught entirely red-handed, with no room for lies. Together, Julian and Naomi orchestrated a highly dangerous, high-stakes gambit. At breakfast, Julian loudly and stressedly announced that he was leaving for a sudden, mandatory overnight business trip to Geneva to secure a massive transfer of family wealth into Serena’s name—a legally binding transfer that he claimed required Mrs. Vail's counter-signature by the very next morning. The bait was set, dripping in gold. Serena, crippled by her own insatiable greed and dark impatience, would never let Mrs. Vail survive the night to contest or delay the multi-million dollar transfer.
