Chapter 6 - The Unfiltered Lens

*(CHAPTER 6 — WITNESS / EVIDENCE)*

Eleanor Montgomery was the first to react, drawing upon decades of high-society entitlement and cold manipulation. She stepped in front of her trembling daughter, crossing her arms and glaring at the armed security team.

“How dare you!” Eleanor screeched, her voice shrill with indignant fury. “Ethan, you have lost your mind! Breaking down doors like a common thug? Bringing armed guards into my daughter’s private suite? I will have you ruined! I will call the police this instant!”

“Go ahead, Eleanor,” Ethan said softly, taking two deliberate steps into the room. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't reach for a weapon. His mere presence carried the crushing weight of an avalanche. “Call the police. Call Chief Evans. In fact, let me save you the trouble—Brody already called him ten minutes ago. The squad cars are currently passing through my front gates.”

Vanessa’s knees gave out. She collapsed against the side of the king-sized bed, clutching the leather briefcase to her chest like a shield. “Ethan... please. You don't understand what happened downstairs. Lily was throwing things! She spat on my mother! I was trying to preserve our family’s dignity!”

“Dignity?” Ethan asked, a bitter, humorless smirk flickering across his face. “Is that what you call putting an iron collar around an eight-year-old child’s neck?”

“She needs help, Ethan!” Eleanor interjected desperately, stepping closer, her eyes flashing with malice. “The child is diseased! She inherits her mother’s madness! We have medical records! Dr. Sterling has documented her psychotic episodes for over a year! We were doing what you were too cowardly to do—we were protecting this family from an unstable, violent girl!”

“Dr. Sterling?” Marcus Brody spoke up from the doorway, stepping forward with a thin, metallic tablet in his hand. “You mean Dr. Arthur Sterling? The man whose medical license was suspended in two states for prescribing narcotics under the table? The man who received three separate wire transfers of fifty thousand dollars each from an account registered to Montgomery Holdings LLC over the last ninety days?”

Eleanor froze. The color drained from her aged, powdered face, leaving her skin looking like wet parchment.

“We have your banking records, Eleanor,” Brody continued, tapping the screen. “We have the encrypted communications between your phone and Judge Harrison’s private residence. And thanks to this young man here...” Brody gestured toward Julian, “...we have the complete, unedited audio and video of what happened in this very room less than forty minutes ago.”

Ethan held out his hand. Julian stepped forward and handed the iPad to him.

Ethan turned the screen toward the two women and pressed play.

The voice of Vanessa screaming at Lily echoed through the master bedroom:

*“You will sign your name where the sticky note is, you ungrateful little brat!... Your mother is in the dirt! And your father doesn't give a damn about these papers!... By the time he gets back tomorrow, this entire estate will belong to me and my family!”*

Then came the sickening, sharp crack of Vanessa’s hand striking the child’s face.

Vanessa covered her mouth with both hands, let out a strangled whimper, and slid entirely onto the carpet.

“That’s illegal!” Eleanor hissed, pointing a trembling, arthritic finger at Julian. “He was trespassing! That footage is inadmissible in a court of law! You cannot use that against us!”

“I don't need a court of law to use this footage, Eleanor,” Ethan said, his voice dropping into a register of profound, terrifying authority. “This video isn't just going to the judge. At 11:35 PM, my communications team uploaded this file to the private server of every major media outlet, every hedge fund board member, and every charity committee in the country. In less than twenty minutes, the entire world will see what you truly are.”

Eleanor swayed on her feet, clutching the back of a vanity chair for support. Her social status—the only currency she had ever valued, the fragile shield she had spent fifty years maintaining—was about to be pulverized into dust across the internet.

“Ethan, please...” Vanessa began to crawl toward him across the rug, tears streaming down her face, abandoning every shred of dignity. “Please, Ethan! I did it for us! I was insecure! I thought you still loved Clara! I thought you would leave me with nothing! Forgive me... think of our marriage! Think of our vows!”

Ethan looked down at the woman crawling at his feet.

There was no pity in his eyes. There was no anger left, either. There was only the vast, freezing emptiness of total disgust.

“You asked my daughter to crawl like a dog tonight, Vanessa,” Ethan whispered, looking down at her crumpled form. “And look at you now.”
