Chapter 4 - Margaret Recognized Richard’s Bracelet
The diamond bracelet had been in the Hale family for decades.
Daniel’s mother, Catherine, wore it at formal events.
After Catherine died, Richard placed it in a family safe.
Daniel assumed it remained there.
It did not.
Margaret had it.
That made no sense.
Until Daniel remembered something.
Three months earlier, Vanessa and Margaret had helped organize an
inventory of family jewelry for the wedding.
Daniel had given Vanessa temporary access to several pieces intended for
the ceremony.
The bracelet had been among them.
But why plant it on Emily?
Because the bracelet carried more than sentimental value.
Inside the clasp was a tiny engraved number.
H-17.
Emily recognized it.
Her father had written the same code on a sealed envelope she received
after his death.
Daniel stared at her.
“What envelope?”
Emily went quiet.
She had never told him.
Their father had left her a letter.
And a key.
The key opened a storage box at Hale Family Holdings.
Inside were copies of old trust documents.
Emily had not understood why Richard gave them to her.
