Chapter 6 - The Paper Trail

Ethan spent the next forty-eight hours compiling undeniable, forensic evidence. If he was going to expose Vanessa, it had to be a public, indisputable execution of her lie. There could be no room for legal maneuverings, no tears, no claims of "misunderstandings."
His first stop was a boutique silicone prosthetics studio in Chicago’s theater district.
The studio, *Veritas FX*, specialized in hyper-realistic medical mannequins, film props, and prosthetic bellies for television productions. Armed with Vanessa’s photograph and a court order Marcus had managed to expedite through a friendly circuit judge, Ethan walked into the workshop.
The head prop designer, a bearded man named Julian, took one look at Vanessa’s photo and groaned.
"Let me guess," Julian sighed, wiping clay from his apron. "She told someone she was carrying twins for a soap opera."
"She told my brother she was carrying his child," Ethan said grimly. "What did she buy, Julian?"
Julian walked to a metal storage shelf and pulled down a large, customized carrying case. He unzipped it, revealing a series of flesh-toned, medical-grade silicone prosthetics designed to be worn like a corset, complete with breathable mesh webbing, medical-grade adhesive borders, and weighted silicone gel that mimicked the exact density and resistance of a gravid human abdomen.
"She purchased the 'Stage Two' and 'Stage Three' progression models," Julian admitted, pulling out an invoice dated three days after the Miami trip. "Paid eight thousand dollars in cash. She demanded our highest-tier silicone—the one we use for 4K film close-ups. It’s colored to match her skin undertones, complete with artificial superficial veins and a painted linea nigra."
"How does it attach?" Ethan asked, leaning over the silicone flesh.
"Medical skin glue along the ribs and flanks, plus an elastic reinforced band that fastens with heavy-duty metal hook-and-eye closures behind the spine. If she wears a loose bra or a slip underneath, you can't see the seams. To the touch, it feels like human body temperature if she wears it against her skin for an hour."
Ethan touched the silicone. It yielded slightly under pressure, but lacked the underlying hydraulic tension of amniotic fluid contained within an organic muscular wall. It was soft, lifeless polymer.
"What happens if it's punctured?" Ethan asked.
Julian raised an eyebrow. "It’s solid platinum-cure silicone mixed with mineral oil-based softening agents. A small puncture won't pop it like a balloon, but it breaks the tension. If you puncture the air pocket between the prosthetic and the skin, or if you hit the internal oil matrix, the silicone destabilizes. More importantly... if you pierce the outer structural membrane with something sharp, the tension releases, causing the silicone to tear under its own weight and collapse inward."
"Thank you, Julian," Ethan said quietly. He took out his phone, photographed the invoice, the serial numbers, and Julian’s signed statement.
The evidence was complete:
1. The Coral Gables prescription for the knockout drug.
2. The fabricated ultrasound files tracked to a digital forgery vendor.
3. The invoice for the eight-thousand-dollar silicone belly.
Ethan could have called Nathan right then. He could have shown him the papers.
But Ethan knew his brother. Nathan was drowning in an ocean of manufactured guilt. If Ethan presented papers, Vanessa would cry that Ethan was framing her. She would claim Ethan bribed the prop maker. She would threaten suicide, feign early labor, and Nathan would waver.
To break a psychological hold this deep, Nathan didn't need to read the truth.

He needed to *see* it die in front of him.
