Chapter 16 - Twenty-Eight Dollars RepaidOne afternoon, Lianna entered Corbin's office.

She placed twenty-eight dollars on his desk.
Corbin stared at it.
“What is this?”
“The formula.”
He smiled.
“You never borrowed money from me.”
“No.”
She smiled back.
“But somehow six months of formula appeared in my pantry.”
Corbin tried looking innocent.
Lianna laughed.
It was the first time he had heard her laugh without sadness beneath it.
“Keep it,” he said.
She pushed the money toward him.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I don't want our story to begin with me owing you something.”
Corbin's expression changed.
“Our story?”
Lianna realized what she had said.
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Then Austin began crying from the hallway.
