Chapter 10 - True Wealth

Five years later, the heavy iron gates of the Whitmore estate swung open to welcome us home.

I was sixteen now, driving my own car up the sweeping gravel driveway with Annie in the passenger seat.

She was thirteen, thriving in her classes, and laughing brightly at a joke I had just made.

We pulled up to the front steps just as Grace walked out onto the porch.

She was wearing her crisp, white nurse’s uniform, her face glowing with pride and accomplishment.

She had graduated at the very top of her class that afternoon.

Arthur was sitting in a wheelchair beside her, his health rapidly declining, but his spirit brighter than ever.

He held the diamond ring in his hands—the very same ring Annie had found in the dirt all those years ago.

"You did it, Gracie," Arthur beamed, patting her hand.

We all gathered around him on the porch as the sun began to set over the beautifully manicured garden.

We had lost so much in our past, swallowed by the darkness of tragedy and greed.

But standing there together, I finally realized what true wealth actually was.

It wasn't the mansion, the money, or the diamond ring.

It was the family we chose to build from the ashes of our broken lives.
