Chapter 10 - The Gilded Shadow

The tyrant had been swiftly banished, and the atmosphere in the boutique miraculously warmed. Hours later, the flagship store was closed to the public, the velvet ropes drawn tightly across the glass doors. Inside, under the warm glow of the chandeliers, Lily stood triumphantly in front of a massive trifold mirror. The oversized grey sweater was gone, replaced by the magnificent emerald gown, now expertly pinned and tailored to fit her perfectly. She spun around, laughing brightly, the trauma of the afternoon washed away by her father’s loving, genuine smile. It was a beautiful, picture-perfect victory. But outside, the real world continued to spin. Parked across the rain-slicked pavement of Fifth Avenue, a blacked-out SUV idled silently in the shadows. Inside the vehicle, a rival corporate magnate lowered his tinted window just enough to snap a crisp telephoto picture of the billionaire and his newly revealed, vulnerable daughter. A burner phone illuminated the dark car with a single text message: We found his weakness. Initiate the takeover. The battle for the boutique was won, but the war for the Whitworth empire had only just begun.
