Chapter 2 - The Apex Gatekeeper

From across the gleaming expanse of imported Italian marble, Eleanor spotted the anomaly. As the boutique’s senior manager, Eleanor viewed herself as the absolute gatekeeper of high society, an apex predator in a tailored, blindingly white Chanel suit. To her, the girl in the frayed sweater was not a child, but an infestation—a visual insult to the brand's pristine ecosystem. Eleanor did not walk; she marched, her stiletto heels clicking in a rapid, aggressive tempo that signaled impending doom. She descended upon the girl with chilling efficiency, her manicured hand shooting out to harshly slap the child's fingers away from the glittering fabric. "Don't touch that," Eleanor hissed, her voice a perfectly modulated weapon of condescension. "This boutique isn't for girls like you. You're dirtying the merchandise."
