Chapter 2 - EvidenceAt the emergency room, doctors diagnosed Lily with severe muscle strain, soft-tissue bruising, and dehydration.

Noah had a painful diaper rash, an ear infection, and signs that he had not been properly cared for.
Child Protective Services was contacted.
Daniel called his lawyer, Jenna, before dawn.
He didn't scream.
He didn't threaten anyone.
He simply placed the evidence on the table.
Photographs.
Medical records.
Timestamped notes.
Then he opened the hidden security system.
Three months earlier, Claire had demanded that he disable the cameras.
She believed she had won.
But Daniel was a digital evidence specialist for the state attorney general.
He had removed her access.
He had never stopped the cameras.
The first recording appeared.
4:12 p.m.
Claire's mother, Diane, shoved Noah into Lily's arms.
“You're seven,” Diane snapped. “Act like it.”
Then another clip.
6:03 p.m.
Claire entered wearing a red dress.
She threatened Lily.
And then Marcus Vale—the man who had recently become Claire's boss—appeared behind her.
His arm wrapped around Claire's waist.
He kissed her neck.
Daniel watched silently.
Then Claire looked toward the camera.
“By the time Daniel figures anything out, the joint accounts will be empty.”
She smiled.
“The house will be refinanced. He'll be paying me alimony.”
Daniel paused the footage.
His marriage was over.
But now he understood something more important.
