Later she met Thomas.
When she became pregnant, Thomas knew the truth.
And stayed.
He placed his name on Noah's birth certificate.
Held him after delivery.
Fed him at night.
Called him son.
Years later, Thomas discovered Benjamin had helped Voss alter the navigation system.
He was furious.
Then Rescue Six capsized.
Benjamin was drowning.
Thomas saved him anyway.
Claire wrote:
Blood made Benjamin part of your beginning.
Love made Thomas your father.
Noah looked toward Mercer.
The admiral was crying.
He didn't ask Noah for forgiveness.
He didn't ask to be called father.
He simply said:
“I didn't know.”
Noah answered:
“I know.”
For now, that was enough.
But Noah demanded one thing.
“If this becomes public, you tell everything.”
Mercer nodded.
“Everything.”
“You don't protect your medals.”
“No.”
“You don't protect Voss.”
“No.”
“You clear Thomas's name.”
