Chapter 17 - Bloodline and Balance Sheets

Inside the circular study, the atmospheric pressure dropped as the storm intensified, rattling the reinforced glass.

"The board convenes by satellite in twelve minutes," Eleanor said, glancing at a platinum Patek Philippe watch. She turned a laptop screen toward Emma. On the display was an offshore sovereign account with an astronomical balance: $742,891,400. Beneath it sat an electronic biometric authorization window waiting for a dual-factor release—a digital scan of Emma’s retina and the physical decryption code engraved on the interior gears of the brass key.

"Sign the digital transfer," Eleanor commanded smoothly, nodding to one of the mercenaries, who stepped forward with an optical retinal scanner. "The money transfers to our Cayman clearing house. You live. You will be placed in a private estate in Switzerland, never to set foot in the United States again. Refuse, and your mother will retrieve your corpse from the surf."

Emma looked from the glowing screen to the ruthless matriarch. Her mind flashed to the hospital room where Rebecca had looked at her with unshakeable resolve. She remembered the military code her mother had drilled into her since childhood: *Control the clock, confuse the terrain, force an error.*

"The ledger," Emma said suddenly, voice steadying. "The trust isn't valid without the third protocol. My father told me about it before you killed him."

Eleanor paused, her eyes narrowing with a predator’s wariness. "What nonsense is this?"

"Section Nine of the 1924 charter," Emma lied coolly, buying every second she could. "A blind irrevocable trust requires a physical biometric imprint alongside the code. If you bypass the manual keyhole with a digital override, the funds auto-divert to the Federal Reserve’s fraud depository."

Eleanor stepped toward the desk, the barest flicker of hesitation in her posture. "He never had access to the master bylaws."

"Didn't he?" Emma challenged. "Why do you think he hid the key inside my surgical records?"
