Chapter 21 - The Shattered Glass

Before the enforcer’s finger could complete the pull, Emma threw her weight violently sideways, tipping the heavy mahogany chair into the mercenary’s shins.
The shot went wide, shattering a glass display case of centuries-old artifacts.
In that split-second opening, Rebecca fired twice. The enforcer collapsed against the mahogany desk, dead before he touched the Persian rug.
Rebecca surged across the room, slicing Emma’s zip-ties with a single stroke of her combat knife, pulling her daughter behind the reinforced marble column as Eleanor reached beneath the desk.
"You think you’ve won?!" Eleanor screamed, her voice bordering on madness. She withdrew a yellow military-grade detonator box. "This foundation doesn't die! If I can't have the archive, no one leaves this rock alive!"
Eleanor slapped the primary arming switch.
Deep beneath their feet, the primary foundation charges—placed fifty years ago to ensure the Whitmore secrets could be wiped clean into the sea—began a rapid, five-minute countdown. A siren deafening as an air-raid horn began to wail across the island. The stone floor bucked. Huge cracks spider-webbed across the marble, and the immense glass dome overhead began raining massive iron ribs and plate glass into the room.
"Get to the dock!" Rebecca ordered Emma, thrusting a spare sidearm into her hands.
"I'm not leaving you, Mom!"

"That wasn't a request, soldier! Go!"
