Chapter 3 - The Public HumiliationAt the reception, Audrey's jealousy finally exploded.

She found the maid near the kitchen corridor.

"You."

The woman turned.

"Yes, ma'am?"

"Why were you staring at my husband?"

The maid's expression remained composed.

"I wasn't."

"Don't lie to me."

Guests nearby began turning their heads.

The maid quietly lowered her voice.

"You should speak to your husband."

That sentence shattered Audrey's restraint.

"Don't tell me what I should do."

She grabbed the woman's wrist.

The maid pulled away.

"Please don't."

Audrey's voice rose.

"You work here. You are staff. You don't get to look at my husband like that."

The ballroom became silent.

The maid's face reddened.

But she didn't fight back.

She simply whispered:

"I'm sorry."

Audrey pointed toward the exit.

"Leave."

The woman nodded.

Then Audrey added the words she would regret for years.

"And remember your place."

The woman walked away.

But before she disappeared through the service doors, she looked back at Julian.

This time, Audrey saw the pain in both their eyes.
