Chapter 19 - THE HOME THEY CHOSE

One year later, Chloe stood in the garden behind a modest Virginia home.

Her daughter toddled through the grass.

Daniel followed two steps behind, laughing whenever she fell into the flowers.

Sarah arrived carrying birthday balloons.

Michael brought an absurdly large wooden rocking horse.

There were no guards.

No black sedans.

No locked hospital doors.

Just family.

Imperfect.

Scarred.

Alive.

Daniel walked toward Chloe.

“I used to think protecting someone meant controlling what they knew.”

Chloe looked toward their daughter.

“And now?”

“It means giving them the truth even when the truth might make them leave.”

Chloe slipped her hand into his.

Not because the past had disappeared.

Because they had survived it honestly.
