Flames swallowed the staircase.
Their only escape was an old coal tunnel beneath the basement.
They crawled through darkness as the building burned above them.
Behind Chloe, an explosion shook the earth.
They emerged two blocks away.
The archive was partially saved.
But one cabinet had been lost.
Sarah stared at the flames.
