Chapter 11 - The Wolf Unmasked

"It's a lie!" Julian shouted, turning to the crowd, his arms flailing wildly. "It's an AI deepfake! She fabricated it! Elena found out I was going to break off the engagement because she’s mentally unstable, and she’s trying to destroy my reputation!"

He turned to his fraternity brothers in the wedding party. "Tyler! Tell them! You know how unstable she’s been!"

Tyler didn't say a word. He took two steps backward, completely distancing himself from the groom, his face pale with secondhand humiliation.

"A deepfake, Julian?" I asked, walking over to Arthur Sterling.

The attorney handed me the heavy leather binder.

I held it up for the entire crowd to see.

"Twenty minutes ago, Julian signed the marriage registry and the financial disclosure addendum in the groom's suite," I said. "He thought he was signing an addendum that commingled my father’s assets with his shell corporation upon solemnization."

I turned the page toward Julian.

"Read the header, Julian."

Julian lunged forward, snatching the binder. His eyes darted across the bold legal typeface, and as he read, the last shred of color left his face.

His knees visibly buckled.

"This... this isn't..." he stammered, his fingers trembling violently.

"Read it out loud," I commanded.

He didn't move. He couldn't speak.

Arthur Sterling stepped forward, turning to the assembled crowd. "The document Mr. Thorne executed under penalty of perjury is a Voluntary Confession of Judgment and an Irrevocable Indemnification Agreement. In it, Mr. Thorne acknowledges full personal liability for six million four hundred thousand dollars in fraudulent loan representations, surrenders all claims to the Thorne family home in Raleigh to offset damages, and assigns all future consulting revenues to the Vance Foundation."

"You... you tricked me," Julian gasped, looking at me like I was a demon rising from the earth. "You swapped the pages!"

"You tried to forge my dying father’s signature on a statutory power-of-attorney while he was on morphine, Julian," I said, my voice cutting through the garden like a cold scalpel. "You don't get to complain about contract swaps."

From the back row, two figures stood up.

Dante Silva and his Miami enforcer adjusted their jackets and began walking down the center aisle, their heavy leather shoes crunching against the gravel.

Julian saw them coming.

A strangled, terrifying sound escaped his throat—the sound of an animal realizing the cage door has been welded shut.

"Mr. Silva..." Julian whispered, backing away until his spine hit the floral arch, sending white rose petals scattering across the stone. "Mr. Silva, I can explain... the transfer is just delayed... we had a technical glitch with the trust—"

"Save it, Thorne," Dante Silva said, stopping ten feet from the altar. His voice was thick with a South Florida drawl, calm, cold, and entirely lethal. "Miss Vance already wired the full principal of your debt directly to my firm's escrow account thirty minutes ago."

Julian blinked, completely uncomprehending. "She... what?"

"I bought your debt, Julian," I said softly, stepping closer to him so that only he and Claire could hear my words. "Every single penny. The six point four million principal, the interest, the penalty fees. All of it. Dante Silva doesn't hold your notes anymore. *I do.*"

Julian stared at me, his mouth opening and closing like a fish on dry land. "You... you bought my debt?"

May you like

"Which means," I smiled, "you don't owe loan sharks in Miami anymore. You owe me. And unlike Mr. Silva, I don't break knees. I foreclose. I audit. I seize. By Monday morning, every car, every watch, every bank account, and every square foot of real estate you have ever put your name on belongs to Vance Holdings."
