Chapter 6 - Clara Comes HomeI opened the door.
Clara entered slowly.
She looked terrified.
“I never wanted to give her away,” she whispered.
Margaret immediately attacked.
“You signed the papers.”
“They were forged.”
Clara produced hospital records and legal documents.
She had a lawyer.
She had evidence.
She had the truth.
Then James walked in.
He saw Clara.
Then Noah.
The resemblance was undeniable.
James looked at me.
“Is this really true?”
I nodded.
He read every document.
His hands trembled.
Then Clara said something that changed everything.
“Noah has leukemia.”
James looked at the little boy.
“He needs a bone marrow transplant.”
Clara swallowed.
“Lily is the only potential match we've found.”
James knelt beside Noah.
“Hey, buddy.”
Noah smiled shyly.
“Do you have cookies?”
James laughed through tears.
“Yeah. I think we do.”
