Chapter 9 - The KidnappingMargaret had entered through the back door.

She threatened everyone.
James tried to stop her.
She struck him with a vase.
Then she grabbed Lily.
And disappeared.
The police issued an emergency alert.
I was thousands of miles away.
Helpless.
Then police traced Margaret's credit card.
A gas station.
Upstate New York.
I remembered the cabin.
The Adirondacks.
Margaret's private retreat.
I gave the police the address.
Hours later, my phone rang.
James.
“We found her.”
“Is Lily okay?”
“She’s scared.”
I couldn't breathe.
“But she's safe.”
I cried so hard I could barely stand.
When I finally returned home, Lily ran toward me.
“Mommy!”
I dropped to my knees and caught her.
She buried her face against my chest.
“I knew you'd come.”
May you like
I held her tighter.
“I always will.”
