Chapter 5 - THE FACILITY THAT DIDN'T EXISTThe abandoned communications facility sat two hours west of the base.

Rain hammered its cracked roof.

Officially, the government had stopped using it twelve years earlier.

Claire knew better.

It was where Iron Team had been summoned after Ridge Kilo.

Where ten chairs became nine.

Where officials told them Evelyn Shaw had betrayed the operation.

Where Samuel Voss ordered them never to contact one another again.

Claire remembered leaving that building believing Iron Team was finished.

Now someone had turned the power back on.

Daniel entered beside her.

At the end of the corridor, they found Mason.

Alive.

Unrestrained.

Furious.

“About time.”

Then a man stepped from behind a glass partition.

Twenty-eight.

Dark hair.

Gray-green eyes.

The Reed eyes.

“Hello, brothers.”

Daniel moved protectively in front of Mason.

“Name.”

“Adrian Shaw.”

Claire recognized the surname.

“Evelyn's son.”

Adrian looked at her.

“And Everett Reed's.”

Mason nearly hit him.

Daniel stopped him.

Claire didn't care about their family drama yet.

“Why bring us here?”

Adrian activated a projector.

Documents covered the wall.

Financial records.

Classified transcripts.

Mission notes.

Then Claire saw handwriting she recognized.

Her own.

She moved closer.

“That was locked in a secure archive.”

Adrian nodded.

“My father found it.”

“Everett?”

“Yes.”

Daniel whispered, “What was Dad doing?”

Adrian looked at the three of them.

“Trying to prove my mother was innocent.”

Claire's chest tightened.

Adrian changed the screen.

A photograph appeared.

Evelyn Shaw.

Everett Reed.

And Deputy Director Samuel Voss.

Claire stared.

Adrian spoke the sentence that tore fourteen years of history apart.

“Voss sold the Ridge Kilo route.”
