Chapter 8 - THE NIGHT HE TOOK HERJulian sold everything.

Cars.
Jewelry.
Properties.
Accounts disappeared.
Then came the court order.
An unsupervised overnight visit.
My father wanted me to leave New York.
I refused.
"I'm not running anymore."
Security tightened.
Cameras covered every entrance.
Carter, a former intelligence operative, took control.
Then Julian arrived.
He looked broken.
He took Lila from my arms.
She screamed.
I whispered:
"Bring her home."
He smiled.
"I don't have a home anymore."
The elevator doors closed.
For fifty-six hours, I watched security feeds.
Julian drove to a remote cabin.
Lila cried.
He became angry.
Then desperate.
Then strangely emotional.
Late Saturday night, Carter heard something.
A phone call.
"...The passports are ready?"
A pause.
"Montreal."
I felt my blood freeze.

Julian wasn't planning to return Lila.
