Chapter 11 - Luca Finally Lost His White CoatThe medical board opened an emergency disciplinary hearing.

Luca arrived with three attorneys.
I arrived with Rachel.
Evidence showed he had overridden blood-bank recommendations, concealed his personal relationship with Mariana, interfered with documentation, and potentially compromised patient safety.
His attorneys argued that every decision had occurred during extraordinary circumstances.
Then the board played my recording.
Luca’s own voice filled the hearing room.
“And you survived.”
The arrogance sounded worse through speakers.
By the end of the afternoon, his medical license was temporarily suspended pending full investigation.
He walked outside without his white coat.
Cameras surrounded him.
For years, that coat had been armor.
Now it was gone.
But I felt no triumph.
Only sadness.
