It contained hundreds of messages from Luca.
Some were romantic.
Some manipulative.
Others terrifying.
In one, Luca complained that I controlled money he needed.
In another, he said the upcoming audit could “destroy everything.”
Then came a message sent three days before my accident.
IF JESSI MISSES FRIDAY, I CAN FIX THIS.
I stared at the screen.
Mariana whispered, “I thought he meant the audit.”
“He did.”
“But after your crash, I started wondering what he meant by making sure you missed it.”
That message became a central piece of evidence.
Before leaving, Mariana stopped at the door.
“I loved him.”
I looked at her.
