No Mercedes.
No tailored coat.
No arrogance.
He looked exhausted.
“Rourke threatened Chloe.”
I stared at him through the doorway.
“Call the police.”
“I did.”
That surprised me.
Luca handed me a flash drive.
“This is everything.”
“What?”
“Emails. Contracts. Payments.”
“Why give it to me?”
“Because Dad won't trust me.”
“He shouldn't.”
Luca nodded.
“I know.”
It was the first time he had admitted it.
He looked past me toward the family photographs in the hallway.
“Are the kids okay?”
“They're hurt.”
His eyes filled.
I didn't comfort him.
Some consequences deserved to hurt.
Before leaving, Luca said something quietly.
“Tell Dad I'm sorry.”
“You should tell him yourself.”
“He won't see me.”
“Then earn the right.”
Luca disappeared into the snow.
I looked at the flash drive in my hand.
