Chapter 8 - A Door Left UnlockedSomeone entered Lena’s protected apartment.

Nothing was stolen.
That was worse.
Her bed was untouched.
Her laptop remained on the desk.
Money stayed inside her drawer.
But her military complaint forms had been arranged across the kitchen table.
Three forms.
Three dates.
Three failures of the system.
In the center sat a single bullet.
Lena stared at it through the doorway.
Investigators evacuated the building.
The bullet carried no fingerprints.
Security footage showed nothing.
Someone had known where the cameras were.
Someone had access.
Pierce immediately suspected military police.
Lena refused to accuse anyone without evidence.
Then an investigator noticed something strange.
The forms on the table were copies.
But they were not copies of Lena’s copies.
They contained internal tracking numbers.
Numbers only visible inside the original complaint database.
The person threatening Lena had access to military administrative systems.

And according to the access log, someone had opened Lena’s file twenty-three minutes before the apartment intrusion.
The username belonged to a soldier who had died six months earlier.
