Chapter 8 - THE LETTERI almost threw it away.

Instead, I opened it.
Ryan admitted everything.
He confessed that his parents had targeted me because of my inheritance and my father's wealth.
He admitted that the marriage had originally been part of a plan.
He admitted that he'd lied.
Manipulated.
Stolen.
And hurt me.
But then came the sentence that made my hands tremble.
My mother isn't finished.
According to Ryan, Diane had been planning something from inside jail.
Something involving Lily.
Something that frightened even him.
Dad read the letter.
His jaw tightened.
"Do you believe him?"
I thought about the photograph.
The threats.
The harassment.
"Yes."
Dad immediately contacted Claire, our attorney.
But Diane had already made her next move.
She filed for custody.
She claimed I was unstable.
She claimed I was manipulating Lily.
She claimed my father had brainwashed me.
The judge ordered psychological evaluations.
A custody hearing was scheduled.
I felt the old fear returning.
Dad placed both hands on my shoulders.
"Listen to me."
I looked at him.
May you like
"They can lie about you."
"But they can't change the truth."
