Chapter 12 - A New BeginningLife after the trial was quieter.

Lily thrived in school.
Noah grew stronger every day.
Ryan and I continued therapy.
We learned that healing wasn't about forgetting.
It was about remembering without being controlled by the memory.
Then Sarah came to us one evening.
She was crying.
“I want you to adopt Lily.”
I stared at her.
“What?”
“I love her too much to let my struggles become her burden.”
She wanted Lily to remain part of her life.
She wasn't giving her daughter away.
She was giving her more family.
When we told Lily, she burst into tears.
“Really?”
I hugged her.
“You're already our daughter.”
She smiled.
“Then I want to be official.”
Six months later, the judge made it legal.
Lily looked at me.
“Can I call you Mom?”
I cried.
“Yes.”
She turned toward Ryan.
“Dad?”
Ryan laughed through his tears.
“Absolutely.”
Then she looked at Sarah.
“And you're still my Mommy.”
May you like
Sarah smiled.
“Always.”
