The video was powerful evidence.
So were Lily's statement and Noah's medical records.
But Diane had already started fighting back.
“She claims you attacked her without provocation,” Carter told me.
I almost laughed.
“She threw my son.”
“I know.”
He slid another document across the table.
“There's more.”
Text messages recovered from Diane's phone.
One said:
Emily is controlling Ryan. I need custody of Noah.
Another:
Lily would be better off with me.
Then the final message:
If I can't have my family, no one can.
Ryan stared at the page.
His hands began to shake.
“She was planning this.”
Carter nodded.
“It appears she was building a case against you.”
The realization was terrifying.
This wasn't simply one terrible moment.
Diane had been planning.
Manipulating.
Preparing.
Our lawyer later told us the same thing.
“She isn't trying to repair the family,” she said. “She's trying to control it.”
I looked at Ryan.
“We protect the kids.”
