Chapter 17 - THE TRUSTThe trust contained enough money to change their lives.

But Graham didn't want it.

Not at first.

“This is blood money.”

Maren shook her head.

“No. It's your father's gift.”

“But what if taking it means becoming part of everything he was fighting against?”

Maren took his hand.

“You're not your mother.”

He looked at her.

“And you're not your father.”

She smiled.

“You get to decide what you do with what you're given.”

Graham eventually accepted the trust.

But he didn't buy a mansion.

He didn't buy a sports car.

He established a foundation.

A portion went toward helping families dealing with domestic hardship.

Another portion funded scholarships for children who had grown up in unstable homes.

And some went into Grace's future.

When Helena learned what he had done, she cried.

“You became the man your father hoped you would become.”

Graham smiled.

“I became the man I needed when I was a kid.”

That was the moment Maren realized something.

Their story was no longer about Helena.

It wasn't even about Corinne.

It was about Graham finally becoming free.

And Grace growing up without inheriting the wounds of the past.
