Chapter 5 : Lucy’s school provided another piece.

Lucy’s school provided another piece.
Her kindergarten teacher had noticed a sudden change.
Lucy used to talk constantly about breakfast with her father.
Then, about a month earlier, she stopped.
During one class activity, children drew their morning routines.
Lucy drew herself sitting under a table.
The teacher asked why.
Lucy said:
“That’s where quiet girls wait.”
The school had emailed the household.
Bianca replied.
Not Vittorio.
She told the teacher Lucy was adjusting to “new family boundaries” and sometimes dramatized ordinary consequences.
The teacher accepted the explanation but documented it.
When Vittorio read the email, he felt physically ill.
“What new family boundaries?”
No one could show him a written plan.
So Leah searched the household administration files.
There it was.
A document titled:
POST-MARRIAGE DOMESTIC TRANSITION
Seven pages.
Prepared by Marcus.
Reviewed by Bianca.
Never formally presented to Vittorio.
It proposed household changes after the wedding.
Bianca would become the primary domestic authority.
Lucy would have scheduled time in Vittorio’s office rather than unrestricted access.
Adult breakfasts would be private on weekdays.
Children’s meals could occur separately when “behavior required reduced stimulation.”
Household staff would report child-discipline concerns through Bianca before escalating to Vittorio.
Vittorio stared at the last sentence.
“That cuts me out.”
Leah nodded.
“Potentially.”
“Did I sign this?”
“No.”
“Did I ever see it?”
“No evidence that you did.”
The document was still a draft.
Yet several proposed rules were already being tested.
Adult breakfast separation.
Restricted office access.
Staff complaints routed through Bianca and Marcus.
Lucy being removed from normal meals.
They were implementing a future household before Vittorio approved it.
Then Leah found an earlier version.
One sentence had been deleted from the final draft:
The child must learn that access to the principal family member is not a response to emotional escalation.
Principal family member.
Vittorio.
