Chapter 3 - The Woman Who Knew Too MuchDetective Bennett's office smelled of old coffee and rain-soaked coats.

A wall covered with photographs connected Victor Kane to shell companies, missing witnesses, suspicious deaths, and unexplained transfers of money.

At the center was one photograph.

Michael Whitmore.

Bennett had spent years believing Michael was merely another victim.

Now she suspected he had been the man who nearly exposed Kane.

Meanwhile, Ethan confronted Samuel Brooks, his father's former business associate.

“Tell me the truth about my father.”

Samuel stared at him.

“You're not ready.”

“I've spent twenty-two years being told I wasn't ready.”

Samuel finally opened a locked drawer.

Inside was an old ledger.

“Your father discovered Kane was stealing from the company,” Samuel said.

Ethan's jaw tightened.

“Why didn't he tell me?”

“Because he believed Kane was watching him.”

Samuel lowered his voice.

“And he was right.”

That night, Ethan returned home and found Claire waiting.

She kissed him.

But he felt something different.

Fear.

“You're hiding something,” he said.

Claire forced a smile.

Neither realized that someone was listening from the hallway.
