Chapter 9 - Blackwater MillBlackwater Mill stood at the edge of the river like a skeleton.
Broken windows.
Rusting machinery.
Walls covered in decades of rain and neglect.
Ethan, Claire, and Bennett entered after midnight.
Their flashlights moved across abandoned offices.
Then Ethan found it.
A hidden steel box beneath the floorboards.
Inside was a cassette recorder.
Michael's voice emerged through the static.
“If you're hearing this, I'm probably dead.”
Ethan froze.
His father's voice sounded tired.
“I discovered Kane's operation. But the money is only the surface.”
A pause.
“He is using legitimate companies to move stolen assets through a network of politicians, judges, and businessmen.”
Claire covered her mouth.
Then Michael said something that changed everything.
“Henry Dawson has the original evidence.”
The recording ended.
Suddenly headlights appeared outside.
Bennett drew her weapon.
“Someone followed us.”
Ethan grabbed Claire's hand.
They ran.
