Chapter 18 - Ghost Fleet

The storm over the Gulf of Lion was a churning vortex of black swells and howling winds.

A twin-engine military transport plane flew low beneath the civilian radar grid, skimming just fifty feet above the violent ocean.

Inside the cargo hold, Arthur tightened the harness of his tactical parachute, his jaw set in stone.

Beside him, Maya checked the seals on their waterproof assault gear, her eyes steady despite the turbulent drops.

"Julian’s vessel is the *Leviathan*," Maya explained, shouting over the roar of the engines. "A three-hundred-foot converted icebreaker."

"It's a floating fortress," Arthur shouted back, checking the altimeter strapped to his wrist.

"He operates under a Panamanian flag of convenience," Maya continued. "Once they hit open waters, international law can't touch them."

"We aren't here for international law," Arthur said, his voice hard as iron. "We're here to finish this."

The cargo ramp groaned open, letting in a wall of freezing sea spray and the terrifying roar of the gale.

Below them, through the gaps in the storm clouds, the lights of the massive black yacht cut through the churning whitecaps.

"Jump on green!" the jumpmaster yelled, raising three fingers, then two, then one.

The interior light clicked from red to a brilliant emerald glow.

Maya leapt into the void without hesitation, vanishing into the howling darkness below.

Arthur stepped to the edge of the ramp, looked down at the boiling abyss, and threw himself into the storm.

The wind seized him like a ragdoll, tearing the breath from his throat as he plummeted through the freezing rain.

He checked his wrist display, waiting for the precise altitude before pulling the deployment cord.

The canopy snapped open with a violent jerk that rattled his teeth, immediately braking his descent.

Steering the toggles with precise, calculated motions, Arthur guided his parachute toward the sprawling helipad of the yacht.

He cut the risers five feet above the deck, hitting the slick teak planks in a combat roll and drawing his suppressed submachine gun.

Maya was already crouched beside an air intake vent, having eliminated two patrolling deckhands with clinical precision.

"Bridge is locked down," Maya whispered over the tactical comms. "Julian is holding in the armored state room below."

"And Victoria?" Arthur asked, wiping saltwater from his tactical goggles.

"She's prepping a submersible in the moon pool," Maya answered, gesturing toward the midship hangar. "She knows we're here."

Suddenly, the ship's floodlights blazed to life, turning the rain-slicked deck into a blinding stage of white glare.

"Intruders on the stern!" a voice bellowed through the ship's public address system.

High-caliber machine gun fire shredded the bulkhead beside them, forcing Arthur and Maya to dive behind a heavy steel winch.

"Welcome aboard, little brother!" Victoria’s amplified voice mocked from the ship’s loudspeakers.

"You survived the fire, but you will drown in the deep!" she taunted as armed mercenaries poured onto the upper decks.
