Chapter 3 - The Cruel Verdict

They finally reached the massive, imposing double doors that guarded the estate. Eleanor wrenched the heavy brass handle downward, throwing the thick wood open to the harsh, unforgiving twilight. A bitter, icy wind immediately howled into the foyer, biting at Lily’s tear-streaked face and perfectly mirroring the chaotic devastation tearing through the little girl's heart. "Listen to me, and listen closely," Eleanor hissed, leaning down so her venomous whisper could pierce directly through the howling wind. "No one wants you here anymore. This little charade is over." She shoved the weeping child closer to the perilous threshold, her beautiful, aristocratic face twisting into an ugly mask of pure, unadulterated resentment. "Your father has a new family now. A real family. You are nothing but a burden to him, and you certainly don't belong in my house anymore." She was not merely throwing a helpless child out into the freezing night; she was viciously marking her territory, confident that her absolute authority in this household was unquestionable.
