Chapter 6 - The Reckoning

William stepped slowly and deliberately over the threshold, pulling the massive doors shut behind him with a heavy, resounding thud that echoed like a judge's gavel. His sheer presence immediately swallowed all the oxygen in the room. He didn't even deign to look at his trembling wife; his intense, burning gaze was locked entirely on the tear-stained, terrified face of his little girl. "And who," William’s voice was dangerously low, a rumbling thunder before a catastrophic, world-ending storm, "gave you the right to throw my daughter out of her own home?" Eleanor’s rigid, arrogant posture instantly crumbled. The elegant, commanding mistress of the manor vanished in a heartbeat, replaced by a cornered, pathetic animal. She instinctively took a frantic step back, her expensive heels clicking nervously against the marble as the blood drained completely from her flawless face, leaving her looking like a ghost caught in the daylight.
