Chapter 16 - FOURTEEN NAMES ABOVE THE DOORThe Ghost 7 Resilience and Tactical Training Center opened the following spring.

Fourteen photographs lined the entrance.
Cole.
Ramirez.
Henderson.
And eleven others.
No mention of experimental subjects.
No secret designations.
No mythologizing.
They were soldiers.
Friends.
People.
Marcus became one of Maya's permanent instructors.
Jessica returned periodically from combat medicine.
Diaz helped develop communications exercises.
Rodriguez ran marksmanship training.
Daniel built a peer-support program for veterans and military families.
Maya's mother created the mentorship curriculum.
Maya commanded nothing officially.
Yet everyone called it Maya's center.
She hated that.
So Marcus ordered a plaque.
MAYA REEVES TRAINING BUILDING
She removed it.
He replaced it.
She removed it again.
The third time he bolted it into concrete.
Maya threatened him with administrative duty.
Marcus smiled.
“Worth it.”
Maya realized something.
This was what Cole had meant.
Do something with it.
She had.
Ghost 7 wasn't rebuilt.
Something better had taken its place.
Then one morning, a letter arrived.
No return address.
Inside was one photograph.
Fifteen soldiers.
Maya recognized fourteen.
Ghost 7.
The photograph had supposedly been taken days before Daniel was removed.
But Daniel wasn't the fifteenth person.
Someone else stood beside Cole.
A woman Maya had never seen.
