He covered his face.

"My mom won't have to take extra shifts."
Vanessa closed her eyes.
"No."
"Thank you."
"Don't thank me."
She looked at Samuel's photograph on her desk.
"Just help somebody else when you can."
Ethan didn't understand why her voice broke.
