Chapter 13 - Vanessa ReturnsA year later, a young woman arrived at Linda's House.
Her name was Sarah.
She carried an envelope.
“I'm Vanessa's cousin.”
Vanessa was in Argentina.
Broke.
Terrified.
She wanted to come home.
She wanted to confess.
I called the FBI.
A week later, Vanessa returned to Texas.
She looked nothing like the glamorous woman from the driveway.
She looked exhausted.
Broken.
“I was greedy,” she whispered.
“You were also manipulated.”
She cried.
“How can you forgive me?”
I didn't answer immediately.
Then I said:
“I don't have to forget what you did to forgive you.”
I offered her a choice.
Plead guilty.
Tell the truth.
Help the women Ryan had harmed.

She agreed.
For the first time, Vanessa began repairing the damage she had helped create.
