Chapter 9 - The SecretMonths later, Ryan sent me a prison letter.
He claimed he knew who had helped him kill my parents.
I went to see him.
He smiled through the glass.
“I didn't act alone.”
“Who helped you?”
“Arthur Crawford.”
My heart stopped.
He claimed Crawford had helped rig the crash.
That Crawford had stolen twenty million dollars.
That they had been partners.
I returned home and confronted Crawford.
He looked devastated.
“I loved your parents.”
I demanded every financial record.
He gave me everything.
Clara and I spent days checking the documents.
Nothing.
No hidden account.
No missing money.
No Swiss transfer.
Crawford was clean.
Ryan had lied again.
But I couldn't shake the feeling that his accusation had been designed to distract me.
So I returned to prison.
Ryan smiled.
“You came back.”
I leaned toward the glass.
“Tell me the truth.”
He laughed.
“You still don't understand.”

Then he said one name.
“Vanessa.”
