Chapter 8 - The TrialRyan pleaded not guilty.

He smiled at me from the courtroom.

He claimed I had framed him.

His lawyer attacked my credibility.

He found old therapy records.

Old photographs.

Anything that could make me look unstable.

Vanessa testified.

Then I testified.

For three days, Ryan's lawyer tried to break me.

“Did you kill your parents?”

“No.”

“Did you fabricate the evidence?”

“No.”

“Did you hate your husband?”

I looked at Ryan.

“Yes.”

The courtroom went silent.

“Because he destroyed my family.”

Then Ryan took the stand.

He cried.

He claimed he loved Lila.

He called me sick.

Delusional.

Paranoid.

For a moment, I thought the jury might believe him.

Then the verdict came.

Guilty.

Every major charge.

Including the murders of my parents.

Life without parole.

As the guards dragged him away, he shouted:

“You haven't won!”

But this time, I didn't believe him.

I thought it was over.

I was wrong.
