Chapter 7 - The HuntThe FBI found Ryan hiding under another identity.

He was preparing to flee the country.
But before they could arrest him, he found us.
One night, I was sitting on the ranch porch when a truck stopped outside.
Ryan stepped out.
My blood froze.
“Emily.”
I reached for the gun Crawford had given me.
“Leave.”
“I just want to see Lila.”
“You lost that right.”
His expression hardened.
“You'll regret this.”
He disappeared into the darkness.
The next morning, my phone buzzed.
An unknown number.
A photograph of Lila eating breakfast.
Taken through the kitchen window.
The message was simple.
YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE.
I screamed.
Security searched the property.
They found footprints.
Binoculars.
A cigarette.
Ryan had been watching my daughter.
The FBI moved immediately.
That night, they raided a motel outside Fort Worth.
At eleven, Crawford called.
“We got him.”
For the first time in months, I breathed.
