Chapter 4 - The VideoVanessa told me Ryan planned to disappear.

Brazil.
A new identity.
A new life.
He wasn't taking Vanessa.
He wasn't even taking Lila.
He had called our daughter a liability.
I took the USB drive.
That afternoon, Crawford opened it.
Bank records appeared.
Fake passports.
Offshore accounts.
Audio recordings.
Then we found a video.
Ryan sat in our home office.
Laughing.
“The Bennett broad is wrapped around my finger.”
Then he said something that froze my blood.
“Maybe I'll stage a car crash. Just like her parents. Worked once.”
I watched it three times.
Crawford closed the laptop.
“This is murder evidence.”
I walked outside.
The sunset looked exactly like the sunsets my parents used to love.
I had spent years believing they died in a terrible accident.
Now I knew better.
Ryan had taken them from me.
But before I could process it, another car arrived.
A woman stepped out.
Clara.
The woman in the photograph.
Ryan's other wife.
And behind her stood Jake and Mia.
They looked at me with Ryan's eyes.
For one terrible second, I wanted to hate them.
Then I saw Clara's exhaustion.
She looked at me.
“I think we've both been married to the same monster.”
May you like
I opened the door.
“Come inside.”
