Chapter 15 - ELEANOR'S SECRET
Brenda gave us an address.
Police were waiting.
She was arrested before anyone was hurt.
But the folder she carried was real.
Inside was a letter from Eleanor.
My wife had written it during the final year of her life.
I had never seen it.
She described a woman repeatedly asking questions about our estate.
Brenda.
Eleanor had become suspicious.
She hired a private investigator.
The investigator discovered Brenda's obsession with our family.
Eleanor intended to warn me.
But she became too sick.
Somehow, Brenda got the letter.
She kept it for more than a decade.
Like a trophy.
Then I found one sentence near the end.
Robert, I don't think Brenda is acting alone.
I read it again.
And again.
May you like
Brenda had been arrested.
But Eleanor's warning suggested the story was bigger than her.
