American and Army flags stood behind his desk.
He did not invite her to sit.
“You’re finished here.”
Sophia remained standing.
“Then why am I here?”
Voss smiled.
“Because I’m giving you the opportunity to leave with your career intact.”
Sophia almost admired the confidence.
Almost.
“You threatened Moore.”
“No.”
“You manipulated Reed.”
“No.”
“You framed Cole.”
Voss leaned forward.
“Be careful.”
Sophia smiled faintly.
“There it is.”
“What?”
“The assumption that rank protects you from questions.”
His expression changed.
Sophia remembered Vanessa standing over spilled coffee.
Different room.
Different stakes.
Same mistake.
Voss stepped closer.
“You think you’re untouchable?”
“No.”
