Chapter 6 - VANESSA’S SECOND SECRETVanessa did not deny entering the office.
She arrived at Sophia’s quarters twenty minutes later carrying the missing folder.
“I took it.”
James crossed his arms.
“That could end your career.”
“I know.”
Sophia looked at the folder.
“Why?”
Vanessa placed it on the table.
“Because there’s something inside you weren’t supposed to see yet.”
Sophia opened it.
Another envelope had been inserted between the complaint summaries.
Inside was a photograph.
General Malcolm Voss.
A defense contractor.
Three senior officers.
The photograph had been taken at a private hunting lodge in Virginia.
On the back were six words.
CHECK THE EMERGENCY PROCUREMENT CONTRACTS.
Sophia looked up.
“You put this there?”
Vanessa shook her head.
“I was trying to remove it before Voss arrived.”
“Why?”
“Because he’ll know someone is talking.”
Sophia’s eyes narrowed.
“Someone is.”
May you like
Vanessa looked directly at her.
“Me.”
