Chapter 4 - The Guardian AngelFor the next forty-eight hours, the estate became a medical command center.

The chemical exposure stopped.

The boys received supportive treatment and careful monitoring.

Slowly, color returned to their faces.

Then, one afternoon, Mason laughed.

It was a tiny sound.

But Nathan stopped in the hallway when he heard it.

For months, his home had been filled with silence.

Now his sons were laughing again.

Nathan sat beside their beds that evening, reading a children's book.

Sarah watched from the doorway.

The feared crime lord disappeared when he was with his children.

There was only a father.

A broken father desperately trying to become whole again.

Later that night, Nathan summoned Sarah to his study.

A map of the tri-state area covered the desk.

One location had been marked in red.

Newark docks.

"Clara is there," Nathan said.

Sarah studied the map.

"How many guards?"

"Approximately thirty."

"A frontal assault gets her killed."

Nathan nodded.

"So what do we do?"

Sarah looked at him.

"We walk through the front door."

Nathan's eyes narrowed.

"As what?"

"Medical personnel."

He immediately shook his head.

"No."

Sarah smiled faintly.

"You hired me to protect your family."

Nathan stepped closer.

"And I'm telling you I won't risk another member of it."

Their eyes locked.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Sarah quietly said:

"Trust me."

Nathan knew he had just made the most difficult decision of his life.

May you like

He nodded.

"Tonight."
