Chapter 8 - The Secret in Sarah's PastThat night, Sarah finally told Nathan the truth about herself.

For ten years, she had worked with wealthy families.
Always temporarily.
Always leaving before anyone became too close.
Nathan asked why.
Sarah looked out over the city lights.
"Because people I loved died."
She revealed that her previous assignment had ended in tragedy when criminals targeted the family she protected.
Sarah had survived.
The children had not.
Since then, she had lived by one rule:
Never become emotionally attached.
Nathan listened without interrupting.
Then he said quietly:
"You stayed because you were afraid."
Sarah looked at him.
"Afraid of losing someone again."
Nathan stepped closer.
"So am I."
For the first time, Sarah understood why their connection frightened her.
Nathan wasn't trying to possess her.

He understood her.
And that was far more dangerous.
