Chapter 10 - The Empty BallroomThe ballroom emptied within minutes.

Music stopped.

The bar closed.

Flowers were removed.

The enormous wedding cake disappeared into the kitchen.

Tables were stripped bare.

Tiffany stood alone.

Her veil dragged across the floor.

The white train of her gown had absorbed spilled champagne.

She looked down at it.

A few hours earlier, it had represented perfection.

Now it looked like evidence.

Her maid of honor approached.

"Tiffany..."

"Stay."

The woman hesitated.

"I can't."

"You're my best friend."

"I know."

"Then stay."

The maid of honor looked away.

"You hit Marcus's mother."

Tiffany said nothing.

"You lied about your family's money."

"I didn't know about the fraud."

"I know."

A pause.

"But I know who you became when you thought she was poor."

Then she left.

Tiffany watched her go.
