Chapter 12 - The FallWeeks passed.

The Vance mansion was foreclosed.
Accounts were frozen.
Her father's legal battle dominated local business news.
Tiffany moved into a small apartment.
The first morning there, she woke to the sound of a neighbor's alarm clock through the thin wall.
She had never heard another person's alarm before.
She had never needed to.
There was no housekeeper.
No assistant.
No driver.
No designer wardrobe waiting for her.
Her refrigerator contained half a carton of milk and a bottle of water.
She stared at it.
Then laughed bitterly.
"This is my life now."
She found a job application online.
Receptionist.
She almost closed the page.
Then she remembered Margaret.
Not the slap.
The question.
"Would you have apologized?"
Tiffany submitted the application.
The next morning, she wore a simple black blouse and went to work.
Nobody recognized her.
For the first time, she was invisible.

And strangely...
she liked it.
