Chapter 8 - The Father's SecretRobert Vance suddenly shouted.
"Enough!"
Everyone turned.
He was sweating.
His perfect gray tuxedo suddenly looked like a costume.
"Margaret, we can settle this."
Margaret looked at him.
"I don't think we can."
Robert lowered his voice.
"You don't understand what is at stake."
"I understand perfectly."
"You have no idea what your son would lose if our families separated."
Margaret smiled faintly.
"My son has already gained something."
"What?"
"The truth."
Robert's expression collapsed.
Margaret turned to David.
"Tell them."
David opened the file.
"Last week, Mr. Vance submitted financial statements to Sterling Capital."
Robert's face turned pale.
"They contained falsified assets."
A collective gasp filled the room.
Tiffany stared at her father.
"What did you do?"
Robert looked at her.
"I was trying to save the company."
"You lied?"
"I was trying to save our family!"
Tiffany shook her head.
"No."
Her voice became smaller.
"You were trying to marry me into money."
